Washington University Celebrates the Lunar New Year With Us

The Lunar New Year Festival (LNYF) at Washington University in St. Louis, now in its 19th year, has partnered with Action Against Hunger with the lofty goal of raising enough money to provide lifesaving nutritional treatment to 150 children.

Students Working to End World Hunger

Every day, I work with amazing students and teachers across the United States to educate, raise awareness, and raise funds for our lifesaving work around the world. I frequently speak to students who know that they want to help end world hunger but don’t know how to start. The stories below prove that students (no matter how young!) can have a real impact on the lives of people around the world and that they play a vital role in our work to end global hunger.

Chicago Students Race Against Hunger

On April 26th, nearly 200 students, teachers, and family members from Chicago Public Schools and the After-School All-Stars came together to race against hunger as a part of Chicago Cares’ Chicago Youth Service Day.

Action Against Hunger Visits Google Take Your Kid to Work Day

Introducing Action Against Hunger's complex international work to American children is an ongoing challenge in my job leading our Race Against Hunger program, an initiative to teach kids about global hunger and philanthropy (I wrote about some recent Race events earlier this week).

Kids Across the Country Unite for the Race Against Hunger

Throughout the month of May, students from New York City, Chicago, and the San Francisco Bay Area participated in community-wide events for our Race Against Hunger, a service learning initiative that unites students around the world in the fight against global hunger.

On May 4th nearly 1,000 students came together in Chicago and New York City to kick off our 2013 Race Against Hunger.

Race Against Hunger Event Rallies Refugee and Immigrant Children

The school year is officially underway, which means our Race Against Hunger initiative is back in action! The Race is our service learning program, uniting middle and high school students across the country in the fight against global hunger and malnutrition. After a visit to Columbus, GA in August, our Race team made another stop on September 18th at The Bridge program in Charlotte, NC.

But I’m Just a Student! Why We Need YOU to Help Fight Hunger

Here at ACF, we get questions all the time from students like you. They are students who want to help fight hunger but do not know where to start or how to get involved. After learning about the recent crisis in the Horn of Africa, more and more students are emailing us with questions about our work to end global hunger and malnutrition. Details of the crisis in the Horn of Africa are striking: an estimated 11.5 million are impacted by food shortages, huge losses of livestock, and drought-like conditions.

Service-Learning Conference Trip

Our Education Team traveled to Atlanta, GA last Wednesday to attend the National Service Learning Conference. We believe this was an experience worth sharing.

Students and educators from all over the U.S. joined together to share a wide variety of service-learning projects. Action Against Hunger was among many other nonprofits educating teachers and students about their service-learning program as well as promoting the different educational resources available for them.

Challenge 20/20 Schools & The Race Against Hunger Team Up to Fight Malnutrition

The 4th annual Race Against Hunger has officially begun with a wide range of schools participating from across the country. Of the 64 schools enrolled, two are involved in the Challenge 20/20—an educational program launched by the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) in 2005.

Race Against Hunger Off to a Record Start

This year, the Race Against Hunger promises to be bigger than ever. A national service-learning campaign to educate students about the symptoms and underlying causes of global hunger and malnutrition, the Race also raises vital funds for Action Against Hunger’s life-saving programs around the world.
